This was Native Instruments' first foray into the world of premium MIDI keyboards designed to deeply integrate with their Komplete software suite. While it's now been succeeded by newer MK2 and MK3 versions, it's still a capable controller.
The S49 MK1 was designed to seamlessly integrate with Komplete instruments, providing a unified browsing experience, pre-mapped controls, and innovative features like the Light Guide.
This unique feature used coloured LEDs above the keys to visually represent scales, chords, key zones, and other instrument-specific information. It was both visually striking and incredibly useful for playing and learning.
The S49 MK1 featured a Fatar keybed, known for its smooth and responsive action, making it a joy to play.
The keyboard offered a streamlined way to browse and navigate through the vast Komplete library, with pre-mapped controls for key parameters.
