The Complete Morgan Dollar Mintmark Collection

The Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878 to 1904 and then again in 1921 and was named after the designer George T. Morgan who was a former pupil of Wyon in the Royal Mail London.

Production of the Morgan Dollar commenced on 11th March 1878 with initial strikes coined at the Philadelphia Mint. There was such a high level of pressure on the mint to meet the monthly quota that additional mints San Francisco, Carson City and New Orleans became involved in the production of the Morgan Dollars later on in 1878 and 1879.

All bullion was used to produce the Silver Dollars until bullion reserves were depleted in 1904 and production ceased. In 1921 a further round of Morgan Dollars were produced in Philadelphia, San Francisco and new mint Denver but in the same year the design was replaced with the Peace Dollar

The five coins offered here (one from each mint) are a 1921 Philadelphia, 1896 New Orleans, 1885 San Francisco, 1921 Denver, and a 1878 Carson City
