'SILVER ARROWS' MERCEDES-BENZ W 25 INSPIRED MODEL CAR IN BLACK BY AUTHENTIC MODELS

In 1934, the international motorsport governing body specified a maximum weight for Grand Prix racing cars of 750 kg, excluding tyres and fuel.

With this in mind Germany's Mercedes-Benz decided to reduce weight by removing the lead-based paint which denoted its cars' traditional white livery, exposing the distinctive shining aluminium beneath. Victory by one of these lead to the nickname 'Silver Arrows', or 'Silberpfeil' in German.

A period of dominance for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union Grand-Prix racing cars ensued between 1934 and 1939. Their successors, which were built on the same chassis, continued to race successfully at the Indy 500 after the Second World War.

Among the Authentic Models range are these high-quality replica racing cars from days gone by. The cars are non-running replicas modelled on old tether-racing cars, or 'spindizzies' as they are also known, which were particularly popular in the pre-war period but still have a small following of enthusiasts today.
