Understanding Buyback vs. Pawnbroking:
When you need quick access to cash, it can feel overwhelming trying to decide which option makes the most sense. At Cash Converters, our short-term solutions are Buyback and Pawnbroking but what’s the difference, and which one is right for you?
Let’s break it down in simple terms so you can make a confident, informed choice.
What is Buyback?
Buyback is a short-term cash solution that allows you to sell your item(s) to us with the option to buy them back 28 days later.
Here’s how it works:
If you don’t return within the 28 days, we’ll assume you no longer wish to repurchase the item(s), and they will then be made available for sale in-store.
Why choose Buyback?
Buyback might suit you if:
It’s simple, quick and there are no ongoing repayments to manage.
What do I need to get a Buyback?
We need to check your ID before we can give you any cash for your item(s). Once we have confirmed your identity, your details, photo and history records will be into our computer database.

What is Pawnbroking?
Pawnbroking is a secured six-month loan where you use your item(s) as collateral.
Here’s how it works:
If you’re unable or choose not to repay the loan, your item(s) will be sold to recover the outstanding balance. If the sale proceeds exceed the amount owed, any surplus will be returned to you. Late repayment can cause serious money problems. For help and advice, visit www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk
Why choose Pawnbroking?
Pawnbroking may be right for you if:
It’s a traditional, regulated way to borrow, with clear terms agreed upfront.
Minimum age 18 and proof of ID and address required. Subject to status and affordability. Failure to keep up with payments may result in the loss of your goods. Further terms and conditions apply, ask in store or see FAQs below for more details.
