Croydon based second hand retailer, Cash Converters, situated along London Road in West Croydon is marking its 20th year of business with a long weekend of celebrations (27th March-29th March).
The franchise originally opened its doors in 1994. The business took the place of one of the first built self-service Sainsbury’s at 9-11 London Road. The business relocated four years later to its adjacent position at 13-15 London Road and strangely, in 2013, Sainsbury’s again became its neighbour taking up its original position. Following this success, the second store opened in Croydon High Street in 2010.
Though the London Road Store has moved with the times throughout its 20 year history, there has been one constant figure amongst the hustle and bustle. Yusuf Patel began his career with Cash Converters back in 1994, when the Croydon store originally opened. He has worked his way up from Buys Assistant to Buys Manager and is now Store Manager for both Croydon stores and a valued asset to the business.
Throughout the week a reminiscent 90s theme will be running with cheesy 90s music and retro sweets. Cuddly mascot Cashie the Cat will be on hand to promote an extraordinary Price Crash throughout the store that will give customers a 25% discount on all pink stickered items. In addition, all buyback customers during the celebration will be given a complimentary DVD with their transaction. These products will be available in both Croydon based stores.
A charity raffle will take place over the weekend for a 39” LED television with tickets available for £1 at both stores; the draw will take place on the Saturday afternoon. Money raised will be donated to children’s charity Dreams Come True, which aims to make the wishes of terminally and seriously ill children come true.
Jane Doran and Terry Hussey the franchise owners of both Croydon stores, said: “We are proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of our London Road store. Every day has been made a wonderful experience by those we have around us; every member of staff, old and new, has worked so hard and made the past twenty years both enjoyable and memorable. However, we would not be where we are today without the support of our loyal customers. We would like to thank every one of them for making this possible and we hope this week’s celebrations can be enjoyed by all. We are looking forward to what the next twenty years have to hold!”
Longstanding customer, Artur Aborski, commented: “I have been a happy customer of Croydon Cash Converters since its opening in the early 90s, and I even helped to price up items in the store. I used to buy camera equipment from Cash Converters but have now moved into musical instruments. No matter what my hobby is, Cash Converters always has something to help me on my way, keeping my interests fresh and exciting. Though staff have come and gone throughout the years they always remain friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. Cash Converters provides an otherwise absent public service and I will definitely not be looking elsewhere for my musical needs anytime soon. Congratulations to Jane and all the staff on their 20th anniversary!”
David Patrick, chief executive at Cash Converters, said: “I would like to congratulate Jane, Terry and all their staff on this wonderful milestone and I am sure the anniversary celebrations will be a great success. It is fantastic to know that the Cash Converters brand has such enthusiasm driving it from strength to strength and I look forward to seeing what Croydon Cash Converters will achieve in the years to come.”
