Golf Day 2009
Chief executive of the charity, Peter Newman, was at the event along with 20 year old Shane Reason from Telford who had his dream fulfilled by the charity after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease.
Dreams Come True fulfils the dreams of terminally and seriously ill children. After enduring months of treatment, Dreams Come True came to his aid. The money raised by the Cash Converters Market Drayton golf day last year provided him with a much-needed laptop computer so he could stay in touch with his family and friends.
Shane said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the people at the golf day. It was just fantastic to see so many people taking part in aid of Dreams Come True so that many other children can be helped in the months to come.”
Despite no-one being lucky enough to walk away with the Hole-in-One prize of a brand new Mazda MX5, put up by Furrows Mazda of Shrewsbury, the 19 teams of four all enjoyed the stunning course and superb weather.
Nathan Sermon, Cash Converters business development manager, who organised the event and who lives in Lilleshall, said: “I am so pleased that we were able to beat last year’s total and by so much, especially with Shane there to show what this money can do.
“We had fantastic weather for golf and I am very grateful to all the teams that played and dug deep in their pockets. We were also very lucky to secure the support of some generous sponsors such as Western Union, Logbook Loans and Graham Pearce. I’d like to say a big thank you for all of their support. It is only with their help that we are now able to help many more children like Shane.”
Cash Converters has raised over £70,000 for the charity over the last 18 months. Stores across the UK have held fundraising activities, sold merchandise in store and the company has held an online auction as well as a charity ball.
Peter Newman said “Cash Converters has done an amazing job to arrange yet another brilliant fundraising event. In the current climate it is even more difficult to raise vital funds and we are very thankful to Cash Converters, the teams on the day and their sponsors for all of their efforts. ”

The 2nd Cash Converters Charity Golf Day, aid of Dreams Come True, takes place on Friday 29th May at Market Drayton Golf Club in Shropshire. Last years event raised a fantastic £10,000 which helped make the Dreams Come True for 6 children, suffering from serious or terminal illness.
